Long and Short Score Conflict in a Screener

Review long and short score conflict by checking timeframe, feed, confirmation timing and structure before treating directional bias as a trade.

Long and short score conflict can reveal that a candidate’s directional evidence is unresolved. It can also arise when you compare different feeds, source intervals or observation times. Before deciding which reading to trust, establish whether the readings describe the same data context.

Crypto Setup Planner’s Side column describes analytical bias. It is not an order, and independent quality requirements can withhold qualification when directional context is unsuitable.

Check that the comparison is valid

Record symbol, exchange, instrument type, source timeframe, confirmation time and settings. A five-minute bullish observation and a daily bearish observation are not necessarily contradictory. They can describe different parts of the same price path.

The same asset on a spot exchange and a derivatives venue also uses different source series. A legitimate feed difference should not be presented as a calculation error without inspecting the inputs.

Separate three forms of conflict

On smaller screens, scroll the table horizontally to review every column.

Separate three forms of conflict: practical comparison
Conflict type Example Review question
Within one configuration Directional evidence is too mixed Does the quality workflow permit qualification?
Across timeframes Short-term recovery inside a weaker larger context Which interval defines the research scenario?
Across feeds Spot and contract observations differ Are source bars and participation comparable?

This classification prevents you from “solving” a cross-timeframe question by changing a threshold in a single-timeframe screener.

Work through a mixed-context example

Suppose a hypothetical four-hour review identifies improving long bias while the daily chart still sits beneath a major opposing reference. The shorter-term reading may identify recovery, but the larger context can still limit the candidate’s usefulness.

Write both observations in the journal. Define which interval governs the research scenario and what evidence would change the assessment. Do not average the labels into an invented confidence percentage.

Use BLOCKED or WAIT as information

An unresolved candidate can remain in a waiting queue. A process that always chooses one side may feel decisive while concealing uncertainty. A quality gate that prevents premature qualification can be a useful feature.

The Planner’s current states should be interpreted according to its documented requirements. Do not turn the chosen Side into a substitute for the complete Base Action and Quality reading.

Avoid confirmation shopping

Opening more indicators until one agrees with the desired direction does not resolve the original disagreement. Set the comparison rules in advance: which context matters, which evidence is independent and which state requires more information.

Indicators built from similar price inputs can agree without adding much new evidence. Distinguish repeated measurements from genuinely different questions such as participation, location and source timing.

Keep a conflict review record

Save the competing observations, the decision to wait or investigate, and the next review point. Later, assess whether the process identified uncertainty clearly. Do not judge it only by whether price eventually moved in one direction.

Frequently asked questions

Does LONG mean short evidence is impossible?

No. It describes the selected directional bias under the script’s rules. Other contexts can remain relevant or opposing.

Should I select the highest score across different timeframes?

Not without a defined comparison method. Different intervals describe different observation scales, and their scores are not automatically interchangeable.
