Portfolio Rotation and Relative Strength

Review portfolio rotation through relative strength, persistence, friction and existing exposure rather than switching automatically to the newest leader.

Portfolio rotation and relative strength ask a comparative question: is another candidate sufficiently stronger under the selected method to deserve a review? That is different from asking whether a new trade should be opened immediately.

Trading Suite’s configured portfolio and Smart Swap context can organize relative comparisons. It remains an analytical workflow, not an account-management service or an automatic order system.

Define the comparison universe

Choose the basket and its inclusion rules before reviewing leaders. Record the current holding or reference asset, the comparison interval and settings. A ranking assembled from an unstable list can make leadership appear more persistent than it was.

Keep source timestamps. Relative observations from different moments should not be presented as one simultaneous portfolio snapshot.

Include the cost of changing exposure

On smaller screens, scroll the table horizontally to review every column.

Include the cost of changing exposure: practical comparison
Rotation review Question Why it matters
Relative context Is the candidate stronger under the selected rules? Establishes the comparison
Persistence Has the observation met the method’s continuity requirement? Avoids reacting to every rank change
Friction What transaction and instrument costs apply? A gross advantage can disappear net of costs
Alignment Does broader context support the comparison? Exposes contradictory evidence
Account exposure What risk changes after the switch? A new ticker may retain the same common driver

The table is a review framework. It does not claim the script calculates every personal cost or tax consequence.

Work through a leader change

Imagine Asset B briefly overtakes Asset A in a selected basket. B also has a quality limitation, and switching would incur meaningful costs. A leader change alone is not enough to settle the decision.

Record whether the configured persistence and comparison requirements are met. Review B’s chart, current quality and the exposure already present in the account. WAIT or HOLD can be a coherent analytical result.

Keep product states in context

Trading Suite’s portfolio modes answer different configured questions. Do not assume a defensive rotation framework and a trend-continuation framework must produce identical comparisons.

Use the current product documentation and settings to understand the selected mode. A sample portfolio display is illustrative context, not audited evidence of your account’s return.

Separate rotation from rebalancing

A technical leadership review and a long-term allocation rebalance can have different objectives. The first studies relative chart context. The second may restore a chosen asset-allocation plan. Do not merge them without an explicit policy.

Write which objective governs the review. This prevents a short-term ranking from silently replacing a longer-term account mandate.

Keep a counterfactual record

Record the analytical switch candidate, costs assumed, actual decision and later review result. If no switch was made, retain that observation too. Reviewing only successful rotations hides the opportunities that failed or were correctly rejected.

Frequently asked questions

Should I switch every time the top-ranked asset changes?

No. Review persistence, quality, friction, context and account constraints under a predefined process.

Does Smart Swap execute the rotation?

No. It supplies analytical comparison context. Order placement and account decisions remain separate.

Apply the framework

Use Trading Suite to organize configured chart context and analytical scenarios. Inspect its real interface and the distinct jobs of the enabled modules. Keep the observed state separate from broker execution, personal position size and any claim about future returns.
